Mr W. W. Whitmore died in the Patea Hospital at two o’clock this afternoon, after a long and painful illness. Deceased was a native of Dublin, and was of some note there as a brewer. A large family of sons and daughters are scattered about the colonies. A Jersey man was once thrown ona hundred and fifty feet by an express train, when he picked himself up, looked around for his hat, and remarked: “Well, if I don’t find that hat, I’ll make the company pay for it, A junior met a rival who was somewhat advanced in years, and, wishing to annoy him, inquired how old he was. “ I cannot exactly toll,” replied the other; “ but I can inform you that an ass is older at 20 than a man is at 60.
