The return of infected sheep gazetted for the quarter ending 31st December, by Inspector Gerse, of Wanganui, includes one flock at Waveiley, 1200 sheep, 1 Patea flock 800, 3 flocks at Kakaramea, totaling 2,575 sheep, and 1 flock at Manutahi 2600. None of the Wanganui owners arc gazetted, although it is from Wanganui the infected sheep recently came. Shammy. —Many persons suppose that chamois skins are derived from the animal named the chamois. In fact, the skins so called are the flesh side of sheepskins, soaked in lime water and also in a solution of sulphuric acid. Fish oil is poured over them, and they are then carefully washed in a solution of potash.
