KAKARAMEA.
(from our correspondent.) Monday evening. Considering the boisterous weather on Friday last, there was a good attendance at Mr F. E. Jackson’s stock sale. Cattle : 286 were yarded and 266 sold. Yearlings brought £1 15s, £2 ss, and £2 12s 6d; cows from £3 to £3 ss; cows and calves, £4 ; heifers, £3 5s bullocks, £4 12s 6d ; steers, £3 4s. 667 sheep were presented, and sold at 9s each. The rough weather and bad roads proved unfortunate to the “ Pleasures Party,” who performed at the Town Hall on Friday and Saturday. Although on Saturday evening there were many:
empty benches, Miss J. Nye acted in her usual brilliant style, which reflects great credit on that lady, as many artistes under similar circumstances would have refused to perform. Mr Fisher in the comic line was very good. Mr Yining, although suffering from a cold, managed to render one or two tenor songs in a pleasing manner. It is to be hoped that on the return trip the weather will so far have moderated as to allow many out-settlers to come in and enjoy a thoroughly good evening’s amusement.
