OPENING THE MOKAU.

The Urenui correspondent of the Taranaki Herald says:—l see by a certain telegram from the Native Minister that there is no probability of a Land Court at the Mokau, because Rewi and Tawhiao are opposed to it. This is rather strange, considering that Rewi at the meeting held at Hikurangi last year “signed, sealed, and delivered” all right therein to the Mokau natives. It seems whenever we are on the eve of accomplishing anything Mokau-way, that a peculiar under current sets in, generally in the shape of a letter to some one or other from Rewi or Tawhiao. I think it is near time the under current was cleared away, whether it is the Native Office or anything else. I say Tawhiao has nothing to do with it. The natives owning the land are agreeable, and have been for some time. There is too much mystery in connection with the Mokau business.
