PUBLIC OPINION.

BOROUGH VALUATION ROLL. The following letter is printed as received ; Sir I wish again to correct a Statement this time made in your last nights issue under the Heading of “Roll”, and also wish you to be good enough to publish this and not retain it as information for yourself only, as on a former occasion— I did not estimate the property at £ll * 000 and do not hold myself at all responsible for that statement. I wrote it but did not make it. Relative to the Valuation Roll. I believe there is are medy open to all who are dissatisfied with their valuation and that, your comments on the same are both unnecessary and unasked.

In reply to your remarks “ that information is asked for in a kindly spirit”- I would merely state that it is a matter of total indifference to me in what spirit you ask for any information but would suggest that you instil somewhat more truth into your remarks than usually appears as it seems to me you do not consider for a moment whether they be true or false so long as they chime in with your own will.—lt is usual to allow Ratepayers to use their own judgment as to whether they are over or under valued and that the Judge of the assessment court would decide any objections at the proper timehut it seems a new era in Rating has arrived when the Editor of the Patea Mail has to inform the valuator and other's of their duties * D .
