PUBLIC OPINION.

THE INSTITUTE AGAIN. Can you or any of your readers tell me why the latest English review in the local Beading Room is that of September? The illustrated weekly papers have arrived, but no reviews. And also why the newest reviews, such as the Ninteenth Century, Modern, &c., are not procured ? Of course I am aware that it take funds, but I am also aware (although neither president, committee, nor manager seem, to be) that it takes energetic men and measures to get the funds. And I venture to state that as long as the present officials are in power, the Institute and Beading Boom will bo in the same disgraceful condition. Patea Reader. • ♦ MAKING THE DISTRICT KNOWN. A gentleman who has lately returned from the Northern parts of the Island tells me that while only occasional copies can be seen of the Wanganui and Wellington papers in Northern hotels and reading rooms, yet every issue of the Patea Daily Mail could be seen on the files wherever he travelled, He thinks some credit is due for this enterprise in making this district well known outside. A howl of indignation issues from the the jaws of canine Patea. Why arc wo made the victims of the poison layer, when his grievance might be settled by arbitrators and beer ? Why? Bow-Wow. 1
