This Afternoon.
English Cricket—Latest. Oamaru. —The game resumed to-day at 11-30. Fine weather. Barlow and Bates brought the English score to 50, when Bates was bowled by Hewat, having made 33. Shrewsbury was caught by Palmer for 3. Barlow and Midwinter carried the score to 115, when latter was clean bowled by Hardy for 45. In pretty quick time Scotton, after making one, was given out for a doubtful catch at wickets. Shaw added a few, and score at luncheon adjournment stood at 127; Barlow 36 not out, Shaw 8 not out. Attempted Suicide. Christchurch.—Alexander Murray, landlord of the Crown Hotel, Lyttelton, attempted suicide by cutting his arm across with a razor. From a paper found in the room want of money was the incentive to the deed.
