Compensation for Accident, Christchurch.—The Railway Department has decided to hand over to widow Woodcock, whose son was killed in a recent accident at Kaihiku, a sum equal to six months of his pay. Forgery and Embezzlement. Christchurch.—At the Supreme Court yesterday, the charges of embezzlement and forgery against H. B. Mclntosh, Manager of the Walton Park Coal Co., were proceeded with. He was found guilty on one charge of embezzlement, pleaded guilty to two others. He was found guilty on a charge of forgery. Sentence was deferred till to-day. Chinese and Hospitals. Wellington.—A deputation of Chinese waited on the Mayor yesterday, to whom they handed a donation of £36 for the Wellington Hospital. The deputation intimated the intention of Chinese residents in Wellington to become annual subscribers to the Hospital fund* ’Frisco Mail Arrived. Auckland.—The Mail steamer Zealandia is signalled, and will arrive about 12.30 to-day. She is behind the usual time. Mails in Quarantine. Auckland.—The steamer Zealandia is signalled flying the yellow flag, and it will be some time before the health officer can communicate. It is not known what disease is aboard. Auckland, Later.—No communication will be allowed with the steamer until Dr Philson has been on board and reported. •
