New premises for the bank of Australasia are to be built at Hawera, and tenders are invited. The same bank will build at Patea at an early date. The Education Board met yesterday at Wanganui. The Hart Family are performing in Wanganui. The Bye-Laws of Patea Borough are published in this issue (last page 1 ) in amended form, by special order, prior to their being confirmed at a special meeting of the Council. Mr Homberg, professor of music and teacher of the piano, announces that he will settle in Patea. He is the father of Mrs O’JDea, boarding-house keeper. At the Hall of Commerce, MiBrown is offering New Year’s gifts as special bargains. The Wesleyan school pic-nic in the Kakaramea bush proved more enjoyable than persons who stayed at home would expect. The rain in the forenoon compelled the younger children to be sent back early, but the weather cleared after noon, and those who remained had a really pleasant recreation. Games were plentiful, and the fun was hearty and various. Tea and cakes were abundant. A renewal of the festivity took place this afternoon, when the younger children were entertained in Mr Davis’s paddock, to make up for what they missed on Tuesday.
