Count You Moltke, chief marshal of the German Empire, has resigned his command of the German army.

Foundering of a Large Ship.

The ship “British Navy,” 1263 tons, Captain Tilfer, has sunk while on her voyage to Sydney. Twenty passengers and crew were drowned.

Lighteouse Deserted.

Dublin, 3rd, Calf Rock Lighthouse, Bantry Baj 7 , south coast of Ireland, has been deserted.

Wool Sales.

London, 2nd. At the wool sale to-day 8,800 bales were offered. Prices were firmly maintained.

Stealing an Earl’s Body.

London, 2nd. The body of the late Earl of Crawford and Balcarres was stolen to-day from the mausoleum at Aberdeen. The object of theft is believed to be to extort ransom from relatives of the deceased Earl.

Afghan Protectorate.

London, 2nd. A bluebook has been issued to-daj l, containing' papers and letters in reference to Afghan affairs. One is a communication by the Ameer, Abdul Rahman, to Viceroy, undertaking to do nothing without the consent of England, and to inform the Government of everything that may take place in Afghanistan, whether good or bad.

English Cricketers.

Sydney, 3rd. The cricket match between the English team and 22 of Bathurst concluded to-day, and resulted in a victory for the visitors by 7G runs. The 22 in their first innings scored 43, and second 68 ; the Englishmen scored respectively 115 and 173.

Irish Americans.

Washington, 2nd. The Irish National Convention is now sitting at Chicago and have passed a resolution in favor of national government for Ireland, based on the will of the people. Another resolution has baen passed endorsing the no-rent agitation which is being carried on by the tenants in Ireland.
