It was but poorly attended, and not much interest was taken in the proceedings. Mr W. Wilson being called to the chair, Mr Bridge proposed and M!r Brewer seconded. il That in the opinion of this meeting it is desirable that the Wairoa Highway Board merge into the Council.” An amendment proposed by Mr J. Aiken and seconded by Mr G. Johnston, “ That it is not desirable to merge the Eoad Board into the County Council,” was carried. The feeling throughout the County is no doubt in favor of the Road Boards as against the County Council. The ball given by the Wairoa Light Horse took place in the Town Hall on Friday evening, and I think may be considered a grand success, the arrangements being perfect, while the music by Messrs Armstrong and King was everything that could be desired. Dancing was kept up till broad daylight, and 1 think ail thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The week’s drill terminated on Saturday. On Thursday the troop was drawn up in the main street, and Captain Walkintoii presented the troop champion belt to Sergt. McLean, congratulating him on his various performances with the carbine. Sergeant McLean tied with the champion at, the last Nelson firing. The R.M. has given notice that the Court will be held here on the first Monday in each month, the Clerk of the Court attending on the the third Monday to issue summonses, &c. The annual meeting of the Cricket Club called last week did not come off, only the captain and secretary rolling up. I would suggest calling another meeting, as it is a pity to let the matter drop- Several new members are willing to join, I am informed. WAIROA HIGHWAY BOARD.
