HAWERA.

The Mail has over 90 subscribers between Manutahi and Stratford.

BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL, Tuesday. The land open for sale and to be sold at Hawera on Thursday next, will be strongly competed for, particularly the deferred payment sections. There was quite a rush yesterday to be in time to apply, and many had lo go some distance in order to get a J.P. to witness, as both Captain Wilson and Mr McGuire were away at the time. This does not look like any great Maori scare, or probably the people have that confidence in the Government that they are sure the question will be definitely settled this time. We hear nothing about the “ Difficulty” now. A small rumor is started now and then, but nobody gets interested. We have become like the child with its toy. In buildings, Hawera is. progressing rapidly. The Railway Hotel is about completed, and a very handsome-building it is, reflecting much credit on Mr Pinches as architect, and on Messrs Petherick and Scott as builders. Mine host Pleasants took possession last Saturday week, and

sreins quite satisfied with his “spec.” The frame of Wright’s large building in High-street is up, and when finished will add considerably to Hawera town. Mr M. D. King is also erecting a handsome mw building in High-street, as is also Mr Ecclesfield. Mr Owen is adding to the Egmont Hotel, and some handsome private residences are going up.
