Land Sale in Patea.
An interesting sale of town freehol Is and, leases was held by Mr Coworn on Saturday. The horse parade had been fixed for the same hour, and as many persons wanted to attend both events, the land sale was postponed an hour. It was then largely attended, many visitors being in from the district, and was a success to this extent, that every Patea property put up was disposed of then or later, except three small sections. The sum realised was about £1,060. Sections in other townships were not in demand.

Rev W. Williams has been extending his fame as an eloquent and forcible preacher. He lectured on Wesley and Whitfield on Friday, evening, to a large audience in Mr Barker’s upper room, the soiree being a success; and he preached in the Wesleyan Church on Sunday morning, at Kakaramea in the afternoon, and in Mr Barker’s room in evening, many strangers present. His style is interesting and well sustained, but his clever of word-painting lacks light and shade. He is an uncommonly good talker, and falls only a little short of being first-rate.
