WAVERLEY.

The Mail has over 90 subscribers between Whetmahura and Waitotara. BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL, Wednesday. Mr F. K. Jackson’s sale of cattle belonging to the Williamson estate took place on Saturday, and was on the whole satisfactory, there being a numerous attendance and all the lots being disposed of at fair prices. The election of five commissioners for the Waverley Town Board took place on Tuesday, when the following gentlemen being the only ones nominated were declared to be duly elected by the Returning Officer, Mr Fookes :—Messrs S. Caldwell, F. Mathieson, T. Reid, C. Koertz, J. B. Taylor. Very few of the ratepayers attended the meeting, and very little interest appeared to be taken in the proceedings. It is a pity to see such apathy on the part of the ratepayers. It is to be hoped the new Board will get into harness as soon as possible, and as a new broom is supposed to sweep clean, no doubt we shall see some improvements made at an early date in the appearance of our township. Regarding the road from the township to the Railway Station, I would suggest the advisability of at once communicating with the Government or County Council with a view to getting them to take this over. I think if properly represented, there would not be much difficulty about the matter. There would then be funds available by-and-bye for. footpaths. The Domain Board leases, I am informed, are in a lair way towards completion.

Owing to the Town Hall being engaged by the Lydia Howarde troupe on Friday and Saturday, the Quadrille Club hold their fortnightly dance on Thursday instead of Friday this week.
