WRECK OF A SCHOONER OFF KAIPARA.
On the 17th Natives reported that a vessel had gone on shore opposite Helensville, bottom upwards. Part of her name was washed away. Pour letters remained—Rona—on the bows, and—Rod—on the stern, A telegram from Auckland on the 18th says—There is little doubt but that the vessel reported by the Natives as wrecked on the coast a few miles south of Kaipara Heads is the schooner Rons, which usually traded to Lyttelton. She left Auckland in ballast early this month, and was duo at Kaipara quite a week ago. Further particulars received state that the Maoris say the , yards, blocks, and one anchor arc upon the beach. The vessel is buried in the sand all but the eppper. The Rona was commanded by Captain Kenneth McKenzie, half owner, who has had charge of the vessel since she was built, 2 \ years ago. He has a wife and four children residing at Oamaru. The names of the crew are Robert Smith, Neil Carmichael, Charles Jahnson, W. Eagle. The vessel was insured for £4OO. only about half her value. D. H. McKenzie owned half interest.
