SOUTH AUSTRALIA.
Telegram from Adelaide on the 17th, says the Hon L. Glydc delivered the Financial Statement on the 16th, and said the revenue during the past financial year amounted to £2,000,000. He estimated the revenue for the present year at £2,127,000, and the expenditure at £2,075,000, including £474,000 payable as interest on public works. The estimates of revenue include—£sso,ooo from Customs; £531,000 from land ; and £445,000 from railways. The railways are yielding 3£ per cent, on cost of construction. The public debt amounts to £1,125,000. It is proposed to raise a new loan during the year, to bear interest at the rate of 3 per cent. The Treasurer further proposed to abolish the duty on tea, coffee, cocoa, chocolate, cornsacks, and woolpacks ; but, on the other hand, he announced the Government’s intention to impose a tax of sixpence in the £ on land and property.
