HAWERA.
BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL, Friday Evening. I had the pleasure of inspecting Mr McGuire’s Colonial Brewery, situated at the end of High-street. It is a fine looking building, being 26 x 50, with 3 flats each 8 feet high. At the top storey is the boiler, very substantially fitted in, reflecting much credit on Mr Whittington, the bricklayer. The mash tub is a very large one, and the cooler is reckoned to hold 10 hogsheads. The appliances for the draught of air is very simple and effective. On the second floor is the bank and gyle. The lower floor or cellar is being fitted up to hold about 60 hogsheads. In this part of the building is the well, with a very powerful force pump to fill the tank at the top of the building. The drainage will be perfect, and the arrangements throughout are very complete, and if good beer is not brewed it will certainly not be the fault of the building and appliances. Mr McGuire was his own architect and builder. The first brew will be made next Saturday. Mr 0. Seccombe will be the brewer.
