PARMER'S CO-OPERATIVE ASSOCIATION.
Overtures made by farmers to the Ashburton Co-operative Store Company, that the Companj’ should increase their capital, aiid the agricultural class would support them, led to a meeting at which it was resolved lo extend the capital to £15,000, and name the Society “ Tlie Ashburton Farmers’ Co-operative Association, Limited,” such association to be worked on a similar basis to that of Timaru. It was decided, if possible, to obtain the services of Mr Watkins, manager of the Timaru Association, to lecture on the merits and advantages of such institutions, the matter being left in the bauds of a committee. The objects of the Association, as explained during the evening, were, that it would give ample facilities to the farmers for the exportation of their produce by lessening the large amount of interest now paid to merchants, and that the necessaries of life would also be supplied at a considerably cheaper rate.
