INQUIRY re WAKATU

(Telegram jrom our Correspondent.) Wellington, Friday. An inquiry into the recent stranding of the s.s, Wakatn at Patea was held to-day at the Customs. The evidence of Captain Evans and others on board was taken, showing that the steamer was entering the river in the heavy wash of a south gale, and that a sea struck the steamer broadside when near the breakwater, lifting her •u the west spit, over which she was carried by the next tide, and eventually got off safely. The Court decided that no blame attached to anyone.
