SCHOOL FOR WHAKAMARA.

The following is a copy of application

made for a school building at Whakamara, and stating that 14 children would attend. We have at present 19 of school age, and expect the number to be increased to 23 during the next three months. “ To the Education Board, Wangafmi. “ Gentlemen.—According to yotrr reply, bearing- date 25rd February, 1881, “ tbat when in funds for school building purposes, you would further Consider our application for a school building at Whakamara,” I have now the honor to remind you, the Government having placed £I,OOO at your disposal for that purpose, the parents of children of school age at Whakamara consider they have* fair claim on the Board for ft school building. I herewith forward our desires on the subject, viz., to lease from Mr Bremer, one chain square of section No. 305, abutting on the Whakamara road, the part of which is unused, at a yearly, rental of 2s, for any term the Board might require it, the Board reserving the right to remove all buildings should it prove desirable to do so, leaving the land as regards fencing and grass to the Satisfac» of Mr Bremer. If the funds of the Board would permit, we would suggest a building 30x14 feet, 11 feet studs, a double chimney, and a lean to 10 feet wide the full width, divided into two rooms ana residence for the teacher. Owing to the rough and stormy weather on the ordinary committee meeting night, a quorum did. not show up, and it not being sufficiently convenient to call a special meeting, I am not in a position to forward a direct resolution on the subject. There is a family of four children which will attend school if placed where we now propose that we did not anticipate would be in the district a few months since, which makes a considerable difference as to choice of sites. Hoping, gentlemen, you will at an early date advise us to call for tenders for the erection of a school building, believe me to remain, yours faithfully, “ F. J. Gane.”
