AMONG THE SPIRITS.
I expected to see some record of a private seance held in a Hawera hotel the other day, under the auspices of a professed spiritist who knew how to “ fetch ” those shadowy personages from their nether abode. We sat round a table, about a dozen of us, including a mother and daughter ; and we placed our bands as directed, and waited to see what would happen. Nothing did happen. The daughter said, “ Ma, the table won’t move.” Ma said the spirits would not appear because the company was not com-' posed of believers. My private opinion* was that Ma had been communicating with the spirits previously, rather freely, for I noticed she had some difficulty in steadying her walk as she left the room. For this kind of spirit entertainment we were expected to pay. 1 refused, on the principle of no spirits no money. Don’t you think I was right ? Hoodlum.
