OPUNAKI AND TARANAKI.
The Taranaki Herald speaks feelingly on behalf of the Opnnaki settlers at the want of consideration shown by the Taranaki Education Board, and points out that while the Board refuses the moderate sum of £26 per year for rent of school premises to accommodate 70 children of school age at Opuaaki, it can vote £133 to Urenni for teachers* buildings, &c., where the working average of children attending the school only numbers fifteen : and at the very same meeting the Board had no scruples about accepting a tender for a teacher’s residence, which is to cost £3BO. ■ t)nr contemporary contends that such unjust action engenders ill will against Taranaki and in any case is bad policy, and trusts the Board will at its next meeting endeavour to “ find ” money wherewith to satisfy the just demands for school purposes of the settlers at Opunaki.
