NEW RAILWAYS.
The Government are preparing hills providing for the construction of three large railways—the Wellington to Foxton line by the Coast, the Otago Central line for opening the interior, and the Canterbury Interior to connect with Westland. The provisions of these bills are not known, but they are understood to lay down conditions on which land grants along the lines can be made for assisting the construction by private companies, Perhaps these schemes may be regarded as not unconnected with electioneering tactics. Each scheme, may be good on its merits, but opinions differ.
