WHAKAMARA.

A public meeting was held at Mr Edwards’s, Wbakamara on the 16th, the weather being unfavorable. It was proposed by Mr Edwards, seconded by Mr G. GaUe, that Mr Wallace take the chair. The Chairman stated that the business was to promote the building of a hall for public purposes. It was very necessary to endeavour to get such a building up, and it was for the meeting to propose any resolutions. He explained also that the financial position was this :—Cash in hand and promised, thirty-three pounds; the sums as collected being lodged in of New Zealand at Patea, in the’ joint names of Messrs Wallace, Edwards and Williams, to the Wbakamara Public Hall account; and it was for this meeting to appoint trustees and*a coimaitee to carry out their wishes. Proposed by Mrlllston, seconded by Mr Williams, that the hall be erected on the proposed site, viz Section 1 Block 12. Proposed by Mr Gane, seconded by Mr Illson, That Messrs McGregor, Scott, Wallace, Edwards, Williams, John Pain, and the mover, be a committee and trustees to make all and every arrangements in carrying out the object in view, viz. purchasing the site and erection of building to the best of their judgment, with economj'. This was carried. A committee, Messrs Wallace, Edwards and Williams, was appointed to see if they can find any trees fit to saw the timber out of in the district. Carried.
