KAKARAMEA.
(from our correspondent.)
A meeting of the School Committee was held on Friday’ , last; all the members present. It was resolved that the Is per quarter for each child attending the school, previously’ promised by’ the parents, he collected. Repairs to teacher’s residence, gravelling, and trimming of fences &c., were ordered to be proceeded with immediately. It was proposed by Mr Clover, and seconded by Mr Hawken, that the secretary be requested to write to the Education Board asking if funds not exceeding £8 would be granted for the purpose of erecting a verandah in front of teacher’s residence. Carried. Account ß passed for payment:—Kenworthy 9s 6d, Dodson £3 7s 6d, O’Shanessy’ 9s. An entertainment to augment the funds of the School will come off at an early date. As there are many necessaries required for which at present there is inadequate capitation grant, it is to be hoped this method of “ raising the wind ’ will be successful. The meeting for the election of a new Town Hall committee was, for want of a fair attendance, postponed until next Saturday 7. Doubtless the great meeting in Patea last Saturday evening took many into town.
