( Reuter's Despatches to the Mail.) DEATH OF DEAN STANLEY. London, 18th. Dean Stanley, the popular dean of Westminster Abbey, died to-day, aged 66. IRISH LAND COMMISSION. London, 18 th. The Irish Land Commission consists of Lord O’Hagan (Lord Chancellor of Ireland), Mr E. F. Litton (member for Tyrone), and Mr Vernon (land agent). General surprise is expressed at the names of the members. The appointments are considered weak, and will be strongly opposed by Irish members in the House of Commons. CLAIM against GOVERNMENT. Dunedin, 19th. Mercer and ivife v. the Queen, a claim for £2OOO damages for injuries sustained through alleged negligence of tlie Telegraph Department, in leaving wires accross the road, is being tried before a special jury. TORNADO IN AMERICA. New York, 18th, A tery severe tornado passed over the greater part of the State of Miunesota to-day causing immense destruction to property.
