AUSTRALIAN FROZEN MEAT.

The directors of the Australiaii Frozen Meat Export Company, in' presenting, their second half-yearly report say—-The refrigerating machine on board- the Protos worked most satisfactory, and the meat was landed in London in perfect condition. Influential salesmen employed in London, state (i lt is impossible, as far as the freezing process is concerned, to bring meat to market in a , move desirable condition than that received by ,the Protos.” The result of this shipment strengthens the confidence of the directors in the machines which have been used by the company, and they can see no-difficulty in fully establishing at no distant date, on a sound footing; a large and .growing trade with Europe- in the supply of meat, butter, and other produce from the Australian colonies. Although it might be unsafe to calculate bn the next following shipments realising such high figures as ruled in January last, s till there can be no doubt that remunerative prices will be obtained, and that in time frozen meat will get well into favor with the general consumer?. Of the shipment sent home by the Protos, the butter cost 9|d per lb to place on the Loudon market, and realised 10|d per lb, thus showing a profit of Jd per lb, and on the shipment £602, The mutton landed, in London cost and sold for 6£d, giving a gross profit of £366 or from 4s 3Od to 5s per head.
