BISHOP REDWOOD AT NEW PLYMOUTH.

(Telegram Jrom our Correspondent .) New Plymouth, Friday. The people turned out in large numbers last evening to welcome Bishop Redwood. The streets were crowded. There was a torchlight procession. An entertainment will be given in the schoolroom by the children to-night, at which the Bishop will be present; and numbers of the leading people of the town and district.

The following arrangements have been made by the Catholics of Kew Plymouth for the reception of Bishop Redwood, on his arrival by the night train : A carriage with four grey horses to go first, followed by the children attending the Catholic schools, the Committee, the members of the congregation, and those who like to attend. The members of the Hibernian Society, in full regalia, and some with torches will march on either side of the procession, which will leave the church ground about 7.30, and proceed down Queen-street to the railway station, where it will remain till the train arrives. The Bishop will then be conducted to his carriage, and then the procession in same order will march up Brough am-Street —round Mr Cottier’s comer into Devon-Street and on to the Church. The Bishop having retired to the presbytery to put on his Bishop’s robes, will then come to the church, where he will be met by the Rev Father Chastagnon. An imposing ceremony will then take place, after which the Bishop proceeds into the church, where an address will be presented. Dr Redwood replies, and the reception ceremony will conclude by the Bishop reciting the prayers and pronouncing the Pontifical Benediction.

It will be seen from our correspondent’s telegram that the above arrangements were carried out.
