ILLICIT STILL.

At the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Wanganui, on Wednesday, several charges in connection with the late seizure of an illicit still were entered upon. Richard W. Hugh was charged with unlawfully aiding and assisting in the concealment of an illicit still. Mr Hutchison, who appeared for the prisoner, stated that the court could not convict for concealing either a still or a portion of a still, but only’ for concealing alcoholic spirits on which full duty bad not been paid. The legal objection was held fatal, and prisoner was discharged. The information against A. C. Leslie having been amended, lie was charged first witii having an unlicensed still in bis possession on the Ist April, and pleaded not guilty. The second charge was for making am! selling a still, to which Leslie pleaded guilty, and was fined £SO and costs Os. The first information was dismissed, the facts in both cases being the same. John Calder pleaded not guilty’ to being in unlawful possession of a still. Henry Wheeler, similarly charged, pleaded guilty’. Both cases were remanded till Friday’ for judgment. Wanganui, Friday. H. Wheeler was sentenced to-day to nine months’ hard labor, and John Calder to the same. Leslie has not paid the fine of £SO, but is allowed till Saturday to do so, or in default imprisonment.
