The Feilding Guardian reports that a meeting of sawmillers was held on the 25th April, for the purpose of drawing up a petition to the Government, praying for a reduction of threepence per 100 feet, the present rates of railway carriage, on white pine. The utmost secrecy was observed, and reporters were not admitted. Messrs Bull and Bartholomew took advantage of the Premier’s visit with the Duke of Manchester to petition for the reduction. A circular has been issued from the Education Depanncnt, Wellington, requesting Education Boards to furnish information respecting teachers who have been dismissed with disgrace from service.
