Ram and Ewe Fair.

Mr C. F. Barker reports having held his first ram and ewe fair at Patea on SaturdayIt was a great success, buyers coming from all parts of the district. The whole of the rams found purchasers at good prices ; the store sheep, owing to the late dry weather, not realising as higli a price as they otherwise would, but nearly all that were yarded (about 4,000) sold at fair prices. Fat wethers, especially a line from Messrs J. and H. Williamson, which topped the market at 12s, fetched good value. Store wethers sold well, considering the late drought. The 87 assorted rams from Canterbury sold at £ls 10s, £ls, £ll, £lO, £8 10s, £B, 2 at £7 15s, 3 at £7, 7 at £6 10s, 5 at £5 10s, 10 at £4 10s, the remainder at from £2 to £4. On account of Mr R. BPearce, of Kakaramea, the prices were £6, £5 10s, £4 15s, £4 10s. Other rams, on account of different owners, fetched from £1 10a to £2.

The principal purchasers of the highpriced rams were Messrs Morecroft, Lowes, Mathieson, J. Handley, Burke, Peacock, Wilson, and Dyke. Messrs J. and H. Williamson’s 77 fat wethers sold at 12s.
