DAIRYING IN GERMANY.

The German Dairy Schools are taking measures that will eventually improve and raise the standard of that branch of agricultural industry, which ought to be made so much more important than it has hitherto been in Germany. All unions and institutions have taken the question up, and as they are the best guarantees of the success of any efforts which are being made, it is to be hoped that this useful science may be propagated to advantage, as it is the only sure means of any future good coming from learning. The idea of instituting schools has gained ground rapidly, and nine schools have been erected and started in the kingdom of Prussia alone ; besides which courses of dairying are being held from four to seven days yearly, where all the newest discoveries may be learnt, and where the assembled clubs may improve themselves by exchanging ideas on the chief topics of interest on dairy matters. A local auctioneer advertises for sale a horse which “ has been ploughed and harrowed all spring.” “ Do you pretend to have as good judgment as I have ?” exclaimed an enraged wife to her husband, <; Well, no,” he replied slowly : “ our choice of partners for life show that my judgment is not to be compared to yours,” Scotch whiskey has been administered with complete success to certain small fish in a private aquarium in London. The majority of the fish became sluggish, and after a lingering illness, died. The last few occupants of the tank were seized with the dull symptoms, and in order to try an experiment strictly original, the owners of them took a small earthenware tube, and gave to each fish a few drops of good Scotch whisky neat. They immediately showed signs of great activity, and swam about in the most natural way, and are now to all appearance completely cured.
