The Mail has over 90 subscribers between Manutahi and Stratford. BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL , Monday Evening. Tho Hawera Town Board at their last meeting decided to advertise for an Inspector of Nuisances, an appointment much needed in Hawera, tho effluvia from some localities being anything but agreeable. The Board at the same meeting accepted the tenders of Humphrey and May for forming Wilson-street at £1 2s per chain, and Priuces-strect at £1 5h per chain. Ernest C. Wilkinson was brought before Mr P. G. Wilson, J.P., on Saturday, charged with embezzling £l6, there being other sums not accounted for ; and he was remanded until next Thmsday, when the police will bo prepared with evidence. Several gentlemen who bought on the Waimate Plains have returned to settle permanent!}' amongst us. They find great difficulty in getting house accommodation in Hawera ; in fact every shanty is rented. It is a wonder that people with some spare cash do not erect a few neat buildings, which would pay over 20 per cent, on the investment. The firing for the Officers’ Cup took place on Saturday, and resulted in Sergl. Sutton becoming the possessor of the trophy by scoring 47. The cup was handed to him, and champagne was ordered to “ wet ” the event. ♦-
