WAVERLEY.
The Mail has over 90 subscribers between WhenuaJcura and Waitotara. BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL, Monday Evening. Harvest.— During the last three weeks the weather has been all that could be desired for securing the grain crops in this district. Fanners have now finished stacking, and some have got well through with their threshing. The yield is not up to the average, so far as it has been ascertained with certainty, but the bulk of wheat has yet to be threshed. So far the few samples of oats which have been sent in would lead one to infer the quality is rather inferior. As threshing becomes more general the average yield per acre will be ascertained with a greater degree of accuracy. The land round Waverley does not seem to yield good crops. While the weather has been all that could be desired for harvesting, the grass has begun to suffer from the continued drought, and we could do well with a few days’ rain, but at present there is no prospect of our wishes being gratified in that respect.
