In consequence of a letter written to the Government touching the mismanagement of the Mount View Asylum by a friend of one of the patients, the Government will appoint a Commission to hear evidence in the matter. GAMBLING ON RACECOURSE. Wellington, 11th. The Law Officers of the Crown have reported on the gambling case at Wellington races, and give it as their opinion that the racecourse is public, and gamblers should not be disturbed. WEST COAST RAILWAY COMPY. Wellington, 11th. The prospectus of the Wellington and Foxton Railway is issued ; the capital being half a million in £5 shares. The list is to remain open until the end of May next. WELLINGTON CRICKETERS’ EXCUSE. Wellington, 11th. The Wellington cricketers plead as an excuse for not beating the Australian team, that the ground is unfit to play on, and that some of their number have been suffering some time from hydrobarmaidiana. The latter disease is now prevalent in Wellington.
