A touching incident—A physician feeling a patient’s pulse. “ What is the use of that man’s painting his name twice on his sign ?” said a gentleman to his friend, as he pointed to a sign that read, “ J. E. Weller, Jeweller.” Mrs Blake has written an essay on “ The Disadvantage of Being Pretty.” Most girls are good natured, and willing to put up with the disadvantage. A Cockney tourist met a Scotch girl going to kirk, and, as was not unusual, she was carrying her boots in her hand, and trudging along barefooted. “My girl,” he said, “ Is it customary for all people in these parts to go barefoot?” “Pairtly they do,” said the girl, “ and pairtly they mind their own business.”
