WAITOTARA.
Wednesday Evening. The election for a Hoad Board member to succeed Mr Bridge resulted yesterday as follows : Wailotora Poll. Wucerley Poll. Fisher.. 38 Fisher 0 Howie Nil Howie 33 The Waitotara candidate was returned by a total at both places of -17, against Mr Howie’s total of 03. The support was divided atWavcrlcy in a suggestive way. But appart from that, the ratepayers can congratulate themselves on having returned a gentleman whose business capacity cannot fail to be of service to the Wairoa Highway Board. The Momahaki settlers voted for Mr Fisher to a man; and several voters from Wanganui who own property in the Ward came out by train at S.-10. recorded their votes here at 9 a.m., and returned to town by the 9.20 train, thus illustrating the advantages of railway facilities, and also the benefit of having had a polling booth here. The local excitement now is a match between Messrs C. E. Brewer and T. H. Nicholson to walk, the former by the river route, i.e., the one which the Momahaki selectors want opened; the latter by the main road and through Williamson’s property to the No. 0 bridge on the Momahaki ; a side, to eventuate to-morrow. Odds are in favour of the river champion.
