The Maii. has over 90 subscribers between Manalahi and Stratford. BRANCH OFFICE OF THE HAIL. Wednesday Evening. ROAD BOARD. A meeting was held at the Secretary’s office on Saturday. Present, Messrs Hunter (chairman), Williams, Ganc, Morrison, and Hobson. Correspondence : H. B. Pearce claiming compensation for hind taken on the Mclls rood. T. Bobson and J. Morrison re bridge over tbe Tongaboc river. The Chairmab stated ho had refrained from interviewing Messrs Buchanan and Hobbs re bridge over the Tongahao, and that considering the responsibility the road board would incur in taking a road through those reserves, ho had stopped any further action re the vote passed at last mooting. Proposed by Mr Ganc, seconded by Mr Williams “ That a committee, consisting of Messrs Hunter, Ganc, and Williams, be appointed to interview Mr Davidson re powers of bis lease to take roads, and that the Board take legal advice upon the subject.” Resolved that the Engineer be instructed to open up the Manawapou road next week. The Foreman of Works stated ho bad pegged off the work in (lie Ngnirc district, and hud prepared some of the plans. Proposed by Mr Hobson, seconded by Mr Ganc, “That tenders he called for culvert and cutting on Skect-road, also same through sections 44 and 47, and sections 2 and 3, block 10, Ngaire, and that Messrs Hunter, Morrison, and Dobson open and accept same ; and that tenders dose on Saturday, the Bth .January, at 4 o’clock.” Carried. Resolved, “ That xho secretary procure from the Chief Surveyor a plan of the Ngaire District.” Resolved “ That Mr Comrie bo paid 4*2o,ns progress payment on his contract.’ Hcsolvcd “ That the Chairman write to Minister of Public Works and ask him to put the main road from Hawcra to Ketcmarac in a thorough state of repair, and that the Road Board would then take the road over.” Tender for rating the district: G. V. Bate, £ls. Accepted. Accounts passed : J. Twigg £lO 10s. G. V. Bate, £8 ss.
