RECEIVED LAST NIGHT. ( Reuter's Despatches to the Mail.) LONDON WOOL. London, Ist. At the wool sales to-day 8,300 bales were offered,' making a total of 54,000 catalogued since the opening. The tone of the sale was firm, London, 2nd. At the wool sales to-day, 8,600 bales were offered, making a total of 62,600 catalogued since the opening. Tone of sale was again firm. RIVAL POLITICS. London, Ist. The Marquis of Salisbury addressed a large audience at Woodstock, Oxfordshire, last night. In the course of his speech bis Lordship referred at length to the address of Earl Granville at Hanley on the previous day, announcing the intentions of Government in regard to Ireland. Alluding to the proposed Land Bill, he said the Tories would oppose any measure which would lead to the confiscation of the property of landlords, and he ridiculed the idea of creating a peasant proprietary in IrelandReferring to Earl Granville’s announcement that the Government would introduce a Bill dealing with the present disorder and providing for the future happiness of Irishmen, his Lordship strongly urged the necessity of first repressing anarchy before taking any steps to remedy the grievances of the people. FIJI OUTRAGES. Washington, 2nd. The United States Government has decided to obtain redress for the murder of an American in Fiji. WOOL EXHIBITS. Melbourne, Friday. There are 200 entries of wool for show in connection with Exhibition. There arc 23 exhibits from New Zealand. BEER PRIZES. Melbourne, Friday. New Zealand brewers take three first prices for beer at the Exhibition. Speight Bros, Dunedin, take Ist and 2nd.
