DISCOVERY OF PLUMBAGO.

A Christchurch telegram says : —Messrs Smart, Pync, and Russell, who are bolder 8 of an acre of Government land for mining purposes, in prospecting for coal, have discovered a scam of amorphous plumbago (or black lead) below an anthracite coal seam, and is horizontal with an easterlydip, and has increased in thickness from two inches at the outcrop to now nearly four feet. The mine is about five miles from the White Cliffs railway station, and a dray' road is already formed and is now being malallcd to within one mile of the workings. Prospectors arc anxious to utilise this valuable discovery, and invite communication with anyone who is conversant with the manufacture of black lead.
