HAWERA.
BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL, Wednesday Evening. The Premier and Native Minister arrived at the constabulary camp yesterday. It is not known definitely what particular business took them there, but is conjectured that they intend attending Te Whiti’s meeting to-day (17th), and have an interview with him. Should they do so, I fancy they will meet with a somewhat better reception than was accorded to Mr Sheehan on his notable visit. They at least can do the bounce now with some show at their back, and it is to be hoped that, should Te Whiti go on with his nonsense and bravado, that the Ministers will have means at disposal to effectually stop him. The natives do not seem so much wrapped up in To Whiti as they were some time since, nor do they attend his monthly meetings so regular now as heretofore. Mr Finuerty has his camp beyond Opunaki, but the natives have made no objcc' lion, only visiting it seemingly from curiosity.
