KAKARAMEA.

(FROM OU I! CORRESPONDENT.) Wednesday Evening. An alarming upset happened near this township on Monday. Mr Dale, the Rev. Mr Nicoll, and Mr Hirst wore going to Hawera in a buggy with pair of horses, and on approaching Kakaramea they had to pass a team of bullocks near the emigration cottages. The crown of the road is high at that point, and the teamster lashed his long whip on the bullocks’ hacks just as the buggy was passing. The horses swerved off" the high road with fright, nearly upsetting the trap, throwing Mr Dale out by tho sudden drop to the lower level, and tearing forward with the other two passengers clinging fast to avoid being also pitched out of the jolting bouncing trap. Tho runaway horses careered through tho township, tho two occupants scrambling over the back as the buggy went along, to escape a ivorse tumble; and eventually the horses ran into a ditch and upset themselves comfortably. They wore, soon got out, without injury ; and the buggy was only a trifle damaged, though the lamps and cushions had gone flying about during the wild race. Mr Dale’s plight was rather serious. He had been driving, and having all his attention on the horses when they began dashing off at the crack of that long whip, he was pitched out before he could release a hand to cling to the trap. He was so bruised and shaken that he had to return to Patea, and could not move about till Wednesday, and then with difficulty. The Rev. M. Nicoll and Mr Hirst continued their journey to Hawera. Mr Mcßae’s groom, Mr Gardner, who received a kick from Pnriri, is so far recovered as to be able to get about again. His disfigurement will I think prove but transitory.
