Bankruptcy Meeting.
A. first meeting of creditors in the estate of Francis Williamson, Waitotara, formerly of Manutahi Hotel, was held yesterday at Patea; Mr S. Tapliu in the chair. Mr Hamerton and Mr Ward appeared for creditors. The debtor was present. Proofs of debts were handed in as follow, the creditors being mostly represented by proxy votes:
The debtor stated his assets thus:— Whakamara estate, £205 ; two sections at Waitotara, £SO: one section at Wanganui, £4O; book debts of late hotel business, £l5O. Proposed by Mr McL’Dowie, seconded by Mr D. McGregor, that Mr Taplin be appointed creditors’ trustee. Amendment proposed by Mr D. H. Williamson, seconded by Mr Todd (debtor’s uncle), that Mr J. Chadwick be trustee. Vote taken; for amendment, ayes 7, representing £IOO 0s lOd; nocs, 14, representing £7ll 12s 2d. Amendment lost, and original metion carried in same proportion. Resolved thatthe proceedings initiated by the debtor be removed from the Christchurch Court to Patea. The debtor said his object in filing a petition in the other Island was not to put his caeditors to inconvenience. Resolved that the trustee be paid a commission of 5 per cent, on moneys actually received into the estate. Resolved that the trustee ascertain particulars of assets and liabilities, and value of the W aitotara estate, for next meeting, December Ist. Mr Hamerton was appointed creditors’ solicitor. The Chairman said: It should be understood that any moneys coming to the estate should be paid to the creditors’ trustee, and the debtor cannot now receive accounts. The Debtor : But I shall want something to live on. Chairman: But you must not take and use any money due to the estate, and if you have any money it should be handed over. : Then the creditors must
make me an allowance. How much will they allow ? Chairman : You are supposed to keep yourself by working. Mr McGregor: It would do him good to work a bit, alter the spell he has had.
Debtor: I cannot keep myself by working and attend here too. Chairman: If you were disabled from working, the creditors might make yon some allowance.
Debtor: Well, I ought to be allowed something to live on. Chairman : What interest have yon in the Waitotara estate left by your father ? Debtor: I have no interest in it. Chairman: What has become of it ? Debtor: I have no interest in it now.
Chairman: This will be a matter for inquiry before the judge at the next meeting. It will be better gone into when the judge is here. The proceedings were then adjourned to December Ist.
