Waimate Buyers.

All the 88 cash sections on the Plains were sold for cash at Friday’s auction. The lowest price per acre was £4 10s, being an advance of 10s on the reserve figure; and the highest price per-acre was £8 3s, given by Mr Caverhilr for 60 acres, and he also gave at the rate of £8 for 100 acres. These were the only two sections that realised up to £B. Seven sections sold at £7 to £7 16s per acre ; 37 sections sold at £6 to £6 18s per acre; 41 sections sold at £5 to £5 19s per acre; and one section sold at £4 10s per acre, A fair average of the cash sections may be taken at £6 per acre, being an increase of 50 per cent on the reserve price. About a dozen sections changed hands after the sale, A few capitalists bought sections as an investment, but the great majority of sections were bought for occupation. Bargains were made at the close of the auction by parties who wanted one or more adjoining sections, and who repurchased them from speculative buyers at an advance of 5s or 10s an acre. Some bids had been made by parties who acted merely as representatives of real bidders, and when the auction closed, the names which had been handed in required correcting in many cases. The official record of owners was closed on Saturday noon, after which any transfers will have to go through the usual process of legal conveyance from seller to buyer. Parties were at liberty to make exchanges and to alter names on the official record up to Saturday noon. The list of owners, as corrected, now stands thus :
