Lodge will be bold to-morrow evening, and it is hoped that when the meeting is over the members will go home bo quietly as not to wake the baby. Towx Board. —The usual monthly meeting of the Town Board was held on Monday evening. Present, Messrs Swinbonrne (chairman) Bowie, Head, and Taylor. Tenders for the formation of Chester-street were opened : Kennedy, £2G ; J. W. Hughes, £22 ; Bulger, £ls ; Olsten, £2-1 15s; Tburiin, £l4 10s. Proposed by Mr Koncl, seconded by Mr r Vnylor } that the tender of MrThurlin be accepted. Agreed to. Tenders for the formation of the Cemetery-road were opened : —Kennedy, £lO ; Hughes, 15s per chain ; Okslon, 10s lOd per chain ; Thurlin, £7 10s ; and Keenan, £4 17s Gd. Proposoed by Mr Bowie, seconded by Mr Taylor, that the tender of Mr Keenan bo accepted. Agreed to. Attention was drawn to the state of the gorsc hedges, and it. was resolved that notices be sent to have them all cut within one month. Bolt. —A little exaitement was caused by a horse attached to a lemonade cart bolting through the town yesterday. The horse had been left standing in front of the Wairoa Hotel, but took fright and went racing along the main street and down Cemetery-road, and was brought to a stop by the carl upsetting in a gully. One shaft was broken, and about eight dozen bottles were smashed.

Bank Holiday. —Thursday next is to be observed as a genera) holiday, the two local banks being closed, to set people at liberty for the Agricultural Show at Patea.
