RECEIVED LAST NIGHT. MORE LUNATICS. Wellington, Monday. This week there are in Mount View Asylum 77 male and G6 female patients. A consignment of four more lunatics is at Wanganui awaiting shipment to Wellington. What can be the cause of this deplorable phenomenon in Wanganui district. Can it can bo bad liquor ? There is a now extension to be made to Mount View Asyluni. Mr Whitelaw proposes to call it the Wanganui wing, and the Mayor and Councillors of Wanganui will be solicited to attend its opening. REDUCTIONS AND DISMISSALS. Wellington, Monday. Mr W. Fraser, chief officer in the Customs Department, has received notice to retire. He will get C months’ salary as compensation. It is reported on good authority that an officer m the Bank of New Zealand, once in high position, is reduced £IOO per annum in salary, and another, a relieving officer who styles himself inspector, is to be dispensed with.
