WAVERLEY.

[FROM OUll COERESPONDKR T.] BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL, Monday Evening, Inspection Parade. —About 20 of the Wavcrley Rifles ami 30 of the Cavalry fell in at the appointed time on Saturday afternoon. After the members had been served with blank cartridge, the Cavalry proceeded to the Recreation Ground, while the Rifles were marched to the back of the township. Hero they wore put through field exercise by Sergeant Whelan, and by way of an afternoon’s sport, the Rifles were to, represent the enemy attacking the township, while the cavalry defended it. About 2.30 the action commenced. Slowly but surely the Cavalry was driven back by the invaders, and the struggle terminated at the back of the Post-ofiice. Before dismissing the companies, Major Noake complimented the volunteers upon the regular and orderly manner in which they had conducted themselves, considering that this was but the second time, they had been engaged in field exercises of the same kind. The afternoon was warm, and when the companies were dismissed at 4.30 they seemed, tired and by no means unwilling to disperse. The Cavalry Ball is fixed for Wednesday. A great many invitations have been issued, and the hoh, sec. (Captain Walkinton, is to be complimented for his perseverance in getting up the ball. The Concert in aid of the Presbyterian Church fund next Friday evening ought to draw a full house. A Letter on Good Templary is held over, through pressure of news. 1.0.G.T. —The Wavcrley lodge met last Thursday. One lady and two gentlemen were initiated, and after some private busi-

ness, several members entertained the lodge with songs. It was thought scarcely necessary to state in a previous report that the unpleasant incident referred to did not occur at Waverley, but as our correspondent has heard people “ wondering whoever it could be,” their minds may be made easy on knowing that the incident happened more than 10,000 miles away, and that such affairs are happily very rare, and that the order will not under any circumstances countenance such irregularities.
