NORMANBY.
[from our correspondent.] Wednesday Evening. On Monday last two loads of timber were sent from the sawmills of Messrs J. and T. Robson to the redoubt now being erected at Manaia. This is, I believe, the firat timber that has been sent from here to the Plains for building purposes, and the w'ant of the road which the Public Works contingent is now employed on is
much needed, as everything has to go by the Waingongoro bridge on the metalled road, which means a journey of at least half aa long again as the intended road will be. It is rather strange that work should have been begun on that road at the Manaia end, as of course all provisions have to be taken round by the bridge, and if the men were within three miles of the township on the other side of the river, a dray would have to go from here some twelve or fifteen miles to get to them.
