GOLD IN HAWKE'S BAY.
The shareholders of the Mohaka Gold Mining Company have received information that the contractors for the tunnel have struck a gold reef, and some samples of the gold have been sent to town, and it is stated that after cutting the reef eighteen inches the supply of powder was exhausted, and blasting operations were suspended. A man named Jackson, out pig-hunting near Makatoa, about three weeks since, met with what he considers to be indications of a quartz reef. He returned and prospected the neighbourhood, and has brought to Makatoa several pieces of quartz obtained from a reef.
