SUSPECTED MURDER.

Hokitika, September 30

The circumstances surrounding the horrible death of a woman and child supposed to be burned in a fire at Kaneiri on the morning of the 22nd instant are doubtful. Since the inquest the police have entertained suspicions of foul play, and this afternoon arrested William Hutcheson for the wilful murder of his wife, Margaret Hutcheson, and his infant son, Patrick Hutcheson. Accused will be formally charged at the RM. Court to-morrow, when it is understood the police will apply for a remand for eight days.
